Reiki means Universal Life-Force Energy. It is a technique of “laying-on of hands” that is thousands of years old. Discovered in the late 1800's by a Japanese Buddhist, Dr. Mikao Usui, it is thought to have originated in Tibet.
Reiki is a powerful healing energy, yet is so simple it can be easily learned by anyone. It works to bring balance on all levels: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Reiki encourages self-healing and is as easily applied to yourself as it is to others.
Reiki is not based on faith, belief or suggestion. It is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. Reiki enhances other health care modalities and does not interfere with traditional medical treatments.
A Reiki practitioner is a conduit for the healing energy. The energy is channeled through the hands of the practitioner into the body of the receiver. The practitioner stands in the flow of the universal life force energy. The recipient lies quietly, fully clothed, as the practitioner “lays their hands” on the body in a series of standard and appropriate positions. This channels the energy into these areas for healing. It is an extremely gentle and relaxing healing process.
