Hypnotherapy

Unless you have had a personal experience with hypnosis, or known someone who has, probably your perception of it is based upon something you have seen on T.V. or the movies, or read somewhere. While this is usually entertaining, it is very different from hypnosis when it is used as a therapy. Hypnosis is a state where the body is relaxed and the mind is quiet and open to suggestion. The focus of attention narrows, yet you have heightened sensitivity and awareness. You are much more in tune with your imagination. Also, in this state mental stress and physical tension are greatly reduced or eliminated

To fully understand the state of hypnosis it is important to first understand how the mind works. Your mind works on three levels:

The Conscious Mind

  • Analytical
  • Rational
  • Makes Judgements
  • Location of Will Power

    The Subconscious Mind

  • Emotional
  • Protective
  • Accepts what it is told
  • Location of Permanent Memory
  • Seat of Imagination and impulse

    The Unconscious Mind

  • Part of the Subconscious MInd
  • Regulate Autonomic Body Functions
  • Regulates Immune System Responses

Typically, you have a thought and it is analyzed in the conscious mind. Information such as memories and experiences are retrieved from the subconscious and processed by the conscious mind when making its judgements and decisions. In the state of hypnosis the conscious mind is bypassed which allows the subconscious mind to be accessed directly.

The state of hypnosis is generally reached through the use of intentional relaxation and focusing exercises. A hypnotherapist is a person who induces this state of hypnosis to treat disorders of the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual body. There are many uses for hypnosis. It can be used to reprogram beliefs and to retrieve forgotten or repressed information. Hypnosis can be an appropriate tool when working in the areas of:

    Stress Reduction Weight
    Relaxation Smoking
    Fears/Phobias Insomnia
    Self-confidence Addictions
    Self-image Headaches
    Public speaking Sexual dysfunction
    Co-dependency Pain management
    Motivation Plus much more…..
